🎙️ Entry 3: My Flu Game - Finding Strength (and My Voice) Through Sickness
Hey hey! Welcome back to Gemu VoKS - and wow, this week was definitely something else.
If Session 2 was all about fun and creativity, Week 3 was like my own version of Michael Jordan’s flu game.
I spent most of the day battling a stomach flu, but I still pushed through and showed up.
Even if I wasn’t able to participate as much as I wanted, I still walked away with lessons that hit deeper than I expected.
🌤️ AM Session with Doc Onie - Taking Care of Your Voice
The morning session was led by Doc Onie, and she shared valuable insights on how to take care of your voice — something essential for anyone in voice acting.
To be honest, I wasn’t at my best during this part. I was feeling weak and struggling to focus because of the stomach flu.
But there was one thing Doc Onie said that really stuck with me:
“You have to get used to the sound of your own voice.”
That line hit hard.
I’ve always had a hard time listening to myself — like, cringe levels of discomfort every time I hear my recordings.
But Doc Onie’s reminder made me realize that loving your own voice isn’t optional — it’s part of the craft.
If I want to grow as a voice artist, I have to accept, understand, and eventually love the sound that represents me.
🎬 PM Session with Ms. Donnah - Intro to Dubbing
By the afternoon, I was feeling a bit better (thankfully!) and managed to focus more during Ms. Donnah’s session.
And wow - this one really got me excited.
We talked all about dubbing - from pre-production to recording, and the entire creative process behind it.
As someone whose interest in voice acting started because of anime, this session hit close to home.
There was even a slide that showed details about dubbing an anime I’m currently watching — that moment alone got me smiling despite being sick!
We even got to try trail dubbing a line, and it was both nerve-wracking and super fun.

After the PM session, it was time for our group presentation, where we shared our project for the week.

All in all, Week 3 leaned more on the technical side - from taking care of your voice to understanding how dubbing works.
Even though I wasn’t 100%, this session reminded me that being part of CVAP isn’t just about performing - it’s about understanding the whole ecosystem of the voice artist industry.
It gives you that bird’s-eye view so you can discover which niche truly fits you.
This week might’ve been rough physically, but mentally and creatively, it was one of the most eye-opening sessions yet.
And that’s a wrap for Week 3!
Despite being down for the count, I’m glad I pushed through - kasi minsan, the best lessons come when you least expect them.
Each week, I’m starting to see a clearer picture of what kind of voice artist I want to become.
If there’s one takeaway from this week, it’s this: Even when you’re not at your best, keep showing up.
It’s not too late to start, and every small step counts toward the beginning of something new.
See you in the next entry, and as always - stay tuned to Gemu VoKS 🎮🎙️
