🎙️ Entry 1: Finally Taking the Mic
Hey there! Karl here - 39 years old, proud girldad, husband, and part of the content team over at PinoyGamer, where I host the PinoyGamer Podcast and News Updates.
And this is Gemu VoK.S.
And guess what? I finally did it - I signed up for the Certified Voice Artist Program!
A Little Throwback
If you’re a ’90s kid like me, you probably remember rushing home to catch your favorite anime - Zenki, Fushigi Yuugi, BT’X, Lupin III, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball — the classics! I always wondered: bakit kapag nagsasalita sila in Tagalog or English, pero Japanese pa rin yung title and credits?
That was my first taste of curiosity about voice acting. I didn’t know it then, but those shows planted a seed - one that stayed quietly in the back of my mind for years.
Real Life Happened
Of course, life went on. Finding workshops or training for voice acting back then was almost impossible. So I did what most of us had to do - got a job, built a career, started a family.
But that dream? It never really went away.
The Spark Returns
Fast forward 21 years after graduation - I’m still that same curious kid, but now a dad and husband who still wonders “what if?”
Then one day, during our PinoyGamer podcast, we had a guest who was a graduate of the Certified Voice Artist Program. Hearing their story lit something in me. Right after that episode, I told myself: “I’m doing this. No matter what.”
Week 1: Not What I Expected
So here I am, just finished my first week of the program… and honestly, it wasn’t what I thought it would be. I expected lessons on mics, soundproofing, and how to imitate voices - but what I got was something deeper.
It made me look inward and ask myself why I wanted to do this in the first place. And that’s when it hit me - this isn’t just about learning to speak in different voices. It’s about finding my own voice.
A New Beginning
So yeah, I did a thing - and I’m really glad I did. It feels like the start of something new.
Maybe it took me 39 years to get here, but hey - it’s never too late to start chasing the things that light you up.
I’ll be sharing weekly updates on this journey - the lessons, the challenges, and the little wins along the way. Hope you stick around for the ride.
Till next time,
- Karl (Gemu VoK.S,)🎤
P.S. To my daughter - if you’re reading this someday, I hope you never stop chasing the things that make you curious. 💖
